In Mali, firewood remains the main source of energy for most people, and the energy produced from fossil fuels or hydropower is highly limited.
Rural areas have low access to electricity with a rate of access to modern energy which is 18% according to statistics. Investments and job creation opportunities are severely limited there. In order to promote sustainable economic development and to mitigate the phenomena of migration and rural exodus, MFC has made rural electrification a key essential component of the programs. The objective is to facilitate access of communities and their businesses to more environmentally friendly and cheaper modern renewable energy services.
