Solar Rural Electrification to combat Rural Exodus (Danida)

Lighting in maternity clinics

These systems were installed in the three core villages of Tabakoro, Zambala and Niamala due to requests made by the villages. The systems provide lighting for the maternity clinics, improving the quality of healthcare service provision and encouraging more women to give birth in the clinic with professional assistance, rather than staying at home. These kinds of systems are extremely cheap over system lifetime, and can provide high quality service for 20 or more years. They can also reduce infant mortality and mortality amongst mothers in childbirth. Without a solar lighting system, women give bith by torchlight or with a kerosene lamp.
