Solar-wind hybrid water pumping (GEF Small Grants Program)

Official reception of installed equipment by the Mayor of Karangana and the local population

The reception ceremony was attended by the Mayor and population of Karangana including associations for gardening and cattle breeding, as well as by MFC, JEKASY and the Malian company that MFC assisted to construct the wind turbine tower. The system is providing around 18 cubic metres of water for cattle and for gardening, both of which are income generating activities, concrete examples of the productive use of renewable energy. The project has allowed a balance between poverty reduction and protection of the environment.

The water tower has a capacity of 10 cubic metres on a 4 metre frame, and in optimal conditions can be filled twice by the pumping system in 24 hours (left); a basin which is used by animals for water, located close to the cattle park (centre); filling a bucket with water pumped entirely by natural non-poluting renewable energy (right).
