The grinding mill - reducing the burden of rural women
The flexible grinding mill can be used for karité (shea nuts), millet or maize. Women can bring foodstuffs to be processed in the morning, and then return to pick it up in the early evening ready to start cooking. Generally women are more than happy to pay a modest fee to have their produce ground rather than spend hours doing it manually with the traditional large wooden pestle and mortar. This frees up a lot of hours in the day for women, who are then able to spend more time looking after children, getting an education, or small income generationg activites.
